William L. Pies, age 79 years, passed away Tuesday January 16, 2018 in West Bend. He was born on June 5, 1938 in Milwaukee to Frank and Adeline (nee Weihert) Pies. Bill was a graduate of Rufus King High School in Milwaukee and later served in the US Army 135th Medical Battalion. On September 26, 1959 Bill married Donna M. Zywicki and began their family and worked for Tomasini Inc. Construction as an operating engineer. Bill was loved by many and enjoyed socializing with friends and family. Several of his favorite things were his fishing trip to Lake Erie each year, and hunting at his cabin up north. He loved riding his four wheeler, gardening and feeding the birds. Bill also enjoyed working with heavy equipment his whole life. His special sidekick was his tractor "Johnny". During his retirement years, he enjoyed spending time at Gundrum Trucking, supervising everyone. He had a personality all his own and many loved him for it. Bill was a member of Local #139 Operating Engineers, Retiree Club for 139 Group, Retired Veteran's Army Group and a member of American Legion Post #483.

Bill is survived by his wife Donna; his daughter, Teri (Scott) Gundrum; daughter-in-law, Denise (Tim) Rutley; grandchildren, Michael (Karyssa), Brian and Natalie Gundrum, Jamie Pies, Lindsay (Ryan) Becker, Haley (Sam) Long and Alexee Rutley; great-grandchildren, Amaiyah, Maxen and three on the way; sister, Jean (Cliff) Eimon; brother, Bernard (Kathy) Pies; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Pies, Elizabeth Stelter, Linda (Jay) Mack, and Elaine Zywicki. He is further survived by his grand-dogs, Tana and Bentley; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Dominic and Stella Zywicki; his sons William Scott and Alan Michael; brother Robert Pies and brothers-in-law Donald and Richard Zywicki.

The Funeral Service for Bill will be held 4:00 pm on Sunday, January 28th at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel (1420 W Paradise Dr., West Bend). The Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday, January 28th from 1:00 pm until time of service at 4:00 pm. Entombment will be at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Froedtert St. Joseph Hospital and Cedar Community Rehab for all the special and tender care they gave to Bill.
