Obituary

William Charles "Bill" Johnston

Passed away suddenly on July 1, 2024, at age 81.   Bill was born on April 4, 1943, in Elmhurst, IL, son of William C. (Marie McCambridge) Johnston, Sr.   Loving husband and best friend of Evelyn "Evie" (nee Brose) for 56 years.  They were married in Wausau, Wisconsin on August 24, 1968.  Beloved Father of Michael (Jen) Johnston, Susan (Steve) Honzelka.   Proud Grandpa of Xander, Ben, McKenna Johnston and Matt, Emily, Tim Honzelka.   Dear Brother of Art (Doris) Johnston and Jack (Pat) Johnston. Also survived by sisters-in-law Jamie (Bob) Fink and Maxine Huebner, brother-in-law, Lyle (Cheryl) Gast, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Rose "Argy" (Johnston) Schreiber, Charlotte (Johnston) Farris and Mary (Johnston) Mango, sister-in-law Nancy Gast, and brothers-in-law Elmer Schreiber, Dan Farris and Charles Huebner.

Bill lived in Arlington Heights, Illinois, until his family moved to a farm near Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin when he was still a young boy.  He graduated from Ft. Atkinson High School in 1961.  Bill went on to earn degrees from Milton College in Accounting and Economics.  After graduating from Milton, Bill earned his CPA certificate, and worked as an accountant until, and after, his retirement in 2000.

Bill served as Treasurer of Southminster Presbyterian Church (Waukesha, WI) for several years, and also as Treasurer of the Waukesha Kiwanis Club.  His interests included hunting, gardening and golf. He enjoyed working in the yard, and making improvements around the house.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sports and other special events.

Bill and Evie lived in Waukesha, Wisconsin from 1970 until 2010, when they moved to Jackson, Wisconsin.  From 1974-1975, they lived in Schaumburg, Illinois, where their daughter Susan was born.  After Bill and Evie retired, they enjoyed traveling, especially going on several Cruises with friends.

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 22, from 9:30AM until 11:15AM, with a Memorial Service, at 11:30AM, at the Phillip Funeral Home, 1420 W. Paradise Dr., West Bend. Pastor Susan Sytsma Bratt o f Crossroads Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial at Washington County Memorial Park at 2:30 pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bill's name to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society w ould be appreciated.
