Visitation will be held Saturday January 27th, 2024, starting at 1pm and the service starting at 2pm at West Bend Community Church, 2005 S. Main St. West Bend, WI 53095
Dr. William John Schapfel, 83, of West Bend, passed away on December 2, 2023, at his residence in the comfort of his loving wife of 60 years. He was born December 9, 1939, in Milwaukee to Henry and Ruth (nee Lampier) Schapfel. Bill was united in marriage to Charla J. Agan on May 26, 1963, at the First Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, Kansas. Bill graduated from Waukesha High School in 1958, then Kansas State University in 1965 in Veterinary Medicine and opened his own practice in 1970. He has enjoyed many years of hunting, fishing, and camping in the great outdoors belonging to many local clubs such as the Rod and Gun, ATA Trap Shoot, Boon and Crocket Club and the Snowflake Skeet Club.
Bill is survived by his wife Charla, his daughters Cheryl (Mike) Romanich of Illinois, Christine (Mike) Henke of West Bend, and Stephanie (Tom) Martin of Florida. He is also survived by grandchildren, Steve (Krystyn) Romanich, Bonnie (Gary) Voegtle, Christopher (Terri) Delaney, Charles (Elizabeth) Delaney, Elizabeth Romanich, Joseph Romanich, Ryan Henke, and Haley Martin. As well as by 12 great grandchildren. He is further survived by his brothers and sisters, Sharon (Rubon) Rubalcava, Glen (Christine) Schapfel, Terri (Richard) Mullins, Kim (Allen) Rupert, and Eric (Carrie Shelden) Pautch. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Schapfel and Ruth Lampier Schapfel Pautch, and brother James Schapfel.
Our family would like to reach out and thank all the doctors, nurses, radiologists, lab technicians and friends that have helped us walk this last mile with us.
