William H. Ahrens "Bill", age 86, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2015. He was born on December 15, 1928 to Ben and Helen (nee Koepke) Ahrens. Bill was proud to be a Veteran. Bill got his Bachelor's degree from Madison in teaching and his Masters was in Biology from Drake University. He was a Biology teacher at Whitefish Bay High School for over 40 years. He was one of the original founders of Riveredge Nature Center. Bill was very proud of the development of this nature center and shared this passion with students so they too could experience and appreciate nature. Bill and the love of his life, Iris (nee Garling) shared the same love of nature.
Bill is survived by his children Jeffery (Barb Schmidt), Jay (Christine); daughter-in-law Becky Ahrens; grandchildren David and Matthew; brother James Ahrens; brother-in-law M. Edward (Edith) Garling; nieces Kristine Davis and Heidi (Joe) Algiere; nephew Stephen Garling; other relatives and friends. He had a special place in his heart for his "granddog" Elsie.
Preceded in death by his parents, sister Luella and his wife of 45 years Iris.
A Memorial Service will be held at Cedar Ridge (113 Cedar Ridge Dr. West Bend) on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 12:30pm. Visitation will be held at Cedar Ridge from 11:00am until the time of the service. Inurnment will take place at Wisconsin Memorial Park at a later date. Memorials appreciated to the American Cancer Society.
