Obituary

Wally Wenzel of Brookfield, Wisconsin passed away on January 9, 2016. He was born in Phelps on April 3, 1932 to Alvin and Lulu Wenzel. He survived all four of his sisters: Shirley, Judy, Fay and Natalie. Although he left Phelps in 1950, in his heart, he never did. He never missed an opportunity to return to Phelps to connect with family and friends and summered there in retirement. He married Virginia Hollister in 1956 whom he met while she was vacationing in Phelps several years earlier. Wally resided in Milwaukee and was a self-employed Painting Contractor. In retirement he enjoyed writing short stories about life during the depression and during WWII.

He is survived by his sons: Greg (Mary Jo) of Watersmeet, MI, Doug (Laura) of Sussex, WI, and Jeff (Karen) of Jackson, WI. He is further survived by seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Wally's life at 1:30pm on February 7, 2016 at Wauwatosa Presbyterian Church (2366 N. 80th St Wauwatosa, Wisconsin). He will be laid to rest at Phelps Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Phelps Historical Museum Po Box 324 Phelps, WI 54554 are appreciated.
