Thomas Ellis Heitman, age 76, of West Bend, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 4, 2026, in Germantown, Wisconsin.
Tom was born on September 30, 1949, to Roy and Cecilia Heitman, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Amporn Heitman (née Nernrach), whom he met in Thailand in 1972, beginning a lifelong love and partnership. He was further preceded in death by his siblings Joseph Raymond, David Heitman, and Nancy Heitman.
A proud veteran, Tom served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1972 as a Morse Code Interceptor, including service during the Vietnam War. He carried deep pride in his military service and the role he played for his country.
Following his military service, Tom built a long and dedicated career with the United States Postal Service, retiring after 36 years of service. He was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to doing his job well.
Tom was a devoted father to James Heitman (Kathryn), John Heitman, Erich Heitman (Lindsey), Angela Peterson (Scott), and Amorn Larson (Richard). He was a proud grandfather to Dryw, Justin, and Charles Heitman; Samuel and Nickolas Larson; Madylin, William, and Evelyn Heitman; and Myles Peterson, each of whom brought him immense joy.
He is survived by his siblings Roy Heitman, Karen Heitman, and Patricia Wildt (Jimbo); his sister-in-law Imogene Heitman; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved deeply.
Tom had a wide range of interests and passions. He enjoyed astronomy and photography, was a loyal fan of the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badger football, and loved fireworks. He delighted in stories and imagination through his love of Star Wars, Star Trek, The Lord of the Rings, Westerns and Assassin’s Creed.
Above all, Tom will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend — a man of quiet strength, deep loyalty, and unwavering pride in his family and his service.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 2:00pm at Phillip Funeral Home in West Bend WI, with Military Funeral Honors. Family will greet guests on Saturday, April 18th from 1:00pm until 1:45pm.
