Susan (Sue) Calhoun (nee Hunter), 76, of West Bend went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with family by her side in the early morning hours on Friday November 1, 2024. She was born in Milwaukee on December 11, 1947. In 1965, she graduated from Custer High School in Milwaukee. Her first marriage to Ted Cessop gave her the birth of her two beautiful children. Not long after, she began a long and successful career in Human Resources, starting with Dr. James Albrecht in Jackson, and moving on to the West Bend Clinic. Her partnership with Dr. Albrecht lasted for decades. She was an active member of the National Management Association, and volunteered years serving as an active member of the managing board. She was united in marriage to her true soulmate, Robert Calhoun, in 1982. Bob and Sue enjoyed traveling, especially to warmer climates. The sun was never bright or hot enough for Sue. For some time, they were avid SCUBA divers and enjoyed being members of the Urge to Submerge dive club, travelling the world. Sue was in Florida to witness the final Space Shuttle launch which was an impactful experience for her. She also enjoyed playing cards and dining out with friends. Anyone who knew her can testify to her immense talent with crafting and creating exquisite beaded jewelry. She was able to share her love of cooking and baking with countless people. In recent years, Bob and Sue joined Immanuel United Church of Christ, where they found a faith home and a loving church family. She also attended and hosted Bible study with a close knit group of friends. Sue was a kind, loving and gentle spirited woman. Her 28 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis was not able to keep her down for long. She adapted and overcame those adversities as well as possible. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
Sue is survived by her son Brian Cessop of Albuquerque, daughter Lisa Cessop of West Bend, and grandchildren Ian and Ella Cessop. Sue is further survived by her sister-in-law Mary Rolf, of West Bend, along with many other relatives and friends. Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bob, parents Ray and Mariette (Wollman) Hunter, and her brother Alan Hunter, sisters-in-law Helen Hunter and Sue Smithers, brothers-in-law Gordy Rolf and John Smithers, as well as other members of her immediate and extended family.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm on Saturday November 23rd at Immanuel United Church of Christ (501 Walnut St West Bend) with a Memorial Service following at 1:00 pm. Pastor Rich Vincent will be presiding. A light lunch will be served after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Immanuel United Church of Christ or to the family for distribution to other charities that were important to Sue. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Waterford of West Bend, especially Pam, and the Horizon Home and Lily Hospice Care teams. Words cannot express the gratitude for the support of the kind and comforting folks at Immanuel Church, as well as from Brian and Lisa's circle of amazing friends and family.
