Obituary

Shirley May Keberle Shirley Keberle, 96, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2024 in West Bend, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ronald to whom she was married 70 years (2018), her oldest son David (2019), and seven of her eight siblings. She is survived by son Daniel Keberle, son Douglas Keberle (Laura), daughter in law Natalie Forbes, sister Sharon Sandstrom, seven grandchildren – Ryan (Erica), Jessica (Jeff Silvernail), Janelle, Lexi, Cordelia, Aurelia, and Landen, and four great grandchildren.

Shirley was born in Clintonville, Wisconsin on December 12, 1927 to Henry and Eliza Anderson. She graduated from Milwaukee's Rufus King high school in 1945. After working at a Milwaukee department store she married her high school sweetheart Ronald Keberle in 1948. Following his graduation from the University of Wisconsin School of Law they moved to Wausau, Wisconsin where he served as a District Attorney and ultimately as a County and Circuit Court judge. Ronald and Shirley made Wausau their home for over 65 years. For many of those years Shirley was an active participant in the Wausau Jaycettes, the Woodson YMCA, and as a volunteer at Wausau Hospital North. She was also very active socially in many activities including women's bowling and golf leagues, card clubs, the Miss Wausau and Miss Wisconsin Pageants, Wausau High School's Annual 'Stunt Night', and Zion Lutheran Church.

Her biggest passions in life were her husband, children, grandchildren, and her many relatives and longtime Wausau friends. Shirley and Ronald and the three boys were avid campers in northern Wisconsin at Clear Lake or Crystal Lake on most weekends throughout many summers. Ultimately, they purchased land and built a family home on Papoose Lake where for many years they often welcomed their children, grandchildren, relatives, and friends.

Shirley cooked all the meals for her family from scratch every day of the week. She also frequently sewed and knitted many types of clothing for herself and her boys. She was always an extremely loving and supportive mother and grandmother and often expressed her unwavering belief in her children and grandchildren no matter what endeavors they pursued.

For many years she and Ronald were members of a monthly bridge club as well as a monthly gathering of friends they referred to as "The Nomads". Shirley and Ronald also loved to travel and took numerous trips with family or friends to Europe, Africa, China, and many destinations throughout the USA. Shirley was always known by all as a very fun mother, daughter, sister, and friend, and was often referred to as "the life of the party"! Her smile and laughter will always be remembered.

A private family service will be held in her memory.
