Obituary

Sandra "Sandy" D. Zopf (nee Hansen), loving wife, mom, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 25 at the age of 78. Sandy had a warm heart, a bright smile, and a comforting demeanor. She exemplified generosity, integrity and sometimes an unexpected touch of sass.

Born to Lester and Mabel (nee Voelz) Hansen, she graduated from Custer High School in Milwaukee and 10 years later married James Zopf. They spent the next 50 years making a home for their four children in the Town of Jackson and building lasting traditions for the "six-pack" ranging from cross-country road trips to competitive game nights. An avid sports fan, she loyally watched the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Milwaukee Bucks, often following the action with her family.

Sandy had a great sense of humor and enjoyed traveling, baking, and spending time with her family and longtime friends. She looked forward to family reunions and spending time in Door County, Wisconsin. While she didn't enjoy the limelight, she felt most comfortable volunteering her time to make Washington County a better place.

She could often be found Sunday mornings in the back pew at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in West Bend, Wisconsin. As a longtime active member, she shared her gifts by proudly serving on the personnel committee and church council. Sandy also served as administrative services director at the Threshold, Inc. in West Bend for 18 years, matching her life's passion to advocate for people with physical and developmental disabilities.

Sandy is survived by her children Tiffany (Mitch Maersch), Heather (Michael Cich), Meredith (Mark Halvorson), and Nathan; grandchildren Maddie and Luke Cich; sisters-in-law Barb Zangl, Arline Mundschau, and Carol Hansen; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Zopf on April 15, 2023, and her brother Ken Hansen on Sept. 1, 2016.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1044 S. Silverbrook Drive, West Bend, WI , with Rev. Jim Hearne officiating. Visitation is at the church from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Private interment will be at Washington County Memorial Park.
