Obituary
Ruth Margaret Purfuerst (nee Weyland), age 95, passed on into Heaven on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Ivy Manor Assisted Living Center in West Bend. She was born on May 31,1930 in Milwaukee, WI to Raymond and Edith (nee Hansen) Weyland. She was the youngest of 4 sisters.
Ruth married William (Bill) Purfuerst on March 4, 1950. They lived in Milwaukee and were blessed with 5 children: Sharon, Jim, Karen, Tom, and Becky. Ruth & Bill enjoyed living at Green Lake in their retirement years. They moved to West Bend to be closer to family when Bill was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. After 59 years of marriage, Ruth became a widow in July 2009. She lived in their condo until it became too hard to live alone. Ruth then moved in with her oldest daughter, Sharon & son-in-law Carter, in Oostburg. After her son-in-law Carter passed away, Ruth then moved back to West Bend, into Ivy Manor Assisted Living Center, where she enjoyed the friendships she made with the residents there, and was thankful for the visits from her pastors and church family of Good Shepherd Lutheran. She also enjoyed her time watching the Milwaukee Brewers on TV and sitting quietly observing what was going on around her. Ruth was very family oriented and loved her family unconditionally.
Ruth is survived by her 5 children: Sharon Protzmann, James (Carlette), Karen (Ken) Kegley, Thomas (Debbie), and Rebecca (Dean Stark) 14 grandchildren: Aaron, Joseph, David, Ben (Liz), Elizabeth (Rick), Sarah (Larry), Katie (Kris), Angie (RJ), Abby, Kyle (Holly), Matt, Bryce (Lizzie), Brett (Leah) & Caden 10 great-grandchildren: Alexis, Carly, Joshua, Melanie, Briella, Larry, Arianna, Addison, Raelyn, & Colton She is also further survived by nieces and nephews.
Ruth is preceded in death by her loving husband, William; her parents; and her siblings (brother Ellsworth who died at a young age of 8, Eunice Ware, Marion Matyasz, & Faith Anderson).
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00pm on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at Good Shepherd Ev. Lutheran Church (777 S. Indiana Ave. West Bend, WI 53095) with Pastor Robert Hein and Pastor Matt Mueller presiding. Visitation will be at church on Tuesday, July 29 th from 2:00pm until 3:45pm. A graveside service will be on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at 10:00am at Graceland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church - Building Committee Fund in her name.
