Roger Roy Menger, aged 88, of Greenfield, WI, passed into eternal rest on the 18th of July, 2024, after a courageous three-year struggle with cancer. He fell into the arms of the Lord in the comfort of his own home, with his devoted wife by his side.
Born to Edward and Caroline Menger on June 6, 1936, in Wein, WI, Roger was raised on the family's farm. He attended school in Edgar where he completed his education, graduating from Edgar High School. Following his graduation, he honorably served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany during the beginning of the Cold War, and aided in the rebuilding efforts of post-war Europe.
Upon completing his service, Roger embarked on a varied professional life, which included roles as a baker, a retail salesman, and a dedicated factory worker at Deltrol Controls in Milwaukee, from which he retired after 27 years of service.
Roger met his beloved wife, Flo, when they were brought together by a neighbor for a blind date in West Bend, WI. Their love blossomed into marriage on July 27, 1968, at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Milwaukee. Together, they made their home in Milwaukee, later moving to Greenfield, where they raised their cherished daughter, Scarlett.
A man of simple pleasures, Roger was an avid reader, especially of suspense, spy, mystery and crime novels. He was known for his love of smoking his pipe, a pastime he eventually set aside, and for the countless hours he spent working on projects in his garage or the basement. He also cherished the car rides he had with his family.
Roger was a loving husband and provider, a tender father to his "little girl" and a father figure to his son-in-law. His joyous greetings of "How Do?!", the comforting aroma of Cherry Cavendish from his pipe, and the treasured family stories he shared will be dearly missed. His heartfelt renditions of "You Are My Sunshine" to his wife will forever echo in their memories.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Flo (nee Cash), his daughter, Scarlett Menger-Goggins (Todd), and a circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to remember him. Preceding him in death were his parents, Edward and Caroline (nee Zielieke), and his siblings, John (Ester Coyle), Eleanor (Harold Allen), Delores, Marvin (Gladys Happenworth), Iola (Leonard Paul), Orville (Shirley), Irving (Nancy Schaefer), and Lowell (Yvonne Hinner).
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Roger Roy Menger will be arranged at a future date. His legacy of kindness and warmth will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
In keeping with Roger's wishes, there will be no immediate services.
