Obituary

Roberta "Bobbie" Jean Griffith

Roberta "Bobbie" Jean Griffith passed away peacefully on March 5th in Germantown, WI, enveloped by the love of her family. Born on March 24, 1934, in Augusta, WI, Bobbie's entrance into the world was as unique as the life she led. With their farm road too muddy for vehicles, her father brought the doctor who delivered her to and from their farmhouse by horse and wagon.

Raised on the family farm in rural Augusta, Bobbie embraced the joys and challenges of country life. She attended a country school from 1 st to 8 th grade and was the only one in her grade for several years.  Active in 4H, she showed pigs and calves, displayed sewing projects, and did a demonstration on how she sewed a dress. After graduating from Augusta High School in 1952, she attended UW-Stout in Menomonie, WI, earning her Bachelor of Science degree in home economics in1956. She taught high school home economics during the '56-'57 school year in New Lisbon, WI.

It was at UW-Stout that Bobbie met the love of her life, Edward Griffith. Their chance meeting blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and they married in 1957.

When her children were young, Bobbie worked as a Welcome Wagon lady in West Allis, greeting new families and helping them settle into the community. For many years, she volunteered through a program at her church to work with physically challenged children. Bobbie dedicated many years as a teacher's assistant at Irving Elementary School in West Allis, retiring after 19 years in 1997.  Later in life, Bobbie assisted several students with learning English as a second language, developing friendships that bridged cultures.

A woman of many talents, Bobbie was a gifted artist, seamstress, and cook. She drew and painted several pieces of art, sewed her daughter's and daughter-in-law's wedding dresses, and prepared many memorable family feasts. She delighted in making handmade greeting and holiday cards that brought joy to those who received them. Her other passions included gardening, camping, cooking for family events, and for a period in their lives, square dancing with Ed, where they made dear friends. Bobbie even sewed several matching skirts for her and shirts for Ed to wear while dancing.

An active and devoted member of the Greenfield Avenue Presbyterian Church in West Allis, Bobbie served as an elder, deacon, and Sunday school teacher. She participated in the bell choir and generously supported other church events such as the annual Strawberry Festival.

Bobbie is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Edward Griffith; her two children, Pat (Don) Benvenuto and Scott (Mary) Griffith; her six grandchildren, Tyler (Angela) Benvenuto, Dana (Nathan) Jaeckels, Samantha Griffith, Stephanie (Mitch) Roush, Sidney Griffith, and Sierra (Logan) Heisdorffer; and her seven great-grandchildren, Adelina, Alaina, Amelia, and Alivia Benvenuto; McKenzie and Savannah Jaeckels; and Levi Roush. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Nellie Haskins; her in-laws, Howell and Shirley Griffith; her sister, Eileen Stensen; brothers-in-law Everette Stensen, Clifford Griffith, and Richard Hubbard; and sisters-in-law Elizabeth Hubbard and Phyllis Griffith.

Bobbie's visitation will be held on Friday, March 14th from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM with a funeral service at 11:45 AM, at Phillip Funeral Home, 1420 W. Paradise Dr., West Bend, with a meal afterwards.
