Rita H. Lucas
(Nee Merkel)

October 23, 1929 - December 28, 2022

Peacefully passed away on December 28, 2022, at the age of 93. Beloved wife of the late Clyde J. Lucas. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Henry. Loving mother of Glenn (Christine), Phyllis (Bill) Barton, Claudia (Joseph)Braun, Jennifer (Christopher) Kowitz and Katharine (Craig) Jones. Preceded in death by parents George and Helen (Messner) Merkel, siblings Theodore, Dolores and Patricia. Also preceded in death by children Dennis, Timothy and Mary Ellen. Proud grandmother of Jessica, Nicole, Nicholas, Andrew, Melissa, Lisa, Jennifer, Heather, Billie Jo, William, and Kellie. Further survived by nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, family and friends.

Rita was a strong woman who lived a full life. She had many interests such as crafts, traveling, shopping and being around family. She enjoyed a long career working at AT&T as a telephone operator and later advancing to the Yellow Pages Directory layout. Above all though, she was a loving and caring mother to her children, and grandchildren.

The family would like to express a special heartfelt appreciation for the care and concern received at the Brookdale Assisted Living Facility in Sussex, WI, and the Brookdale Memory Care Facility in Brookfield, WI.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023, from 10:00AM until the time of the 11:00AM Funeral Service at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery West Chapel, 7301 W. Nash St. Milwaukee, Entombment to follow.
