Obituary

Richard James Roembke (Dick) was called home to the side of his Savior Jesus on February 22, 2026. He was born December 18, 1935, the son of Adolf and Esther (Hoffmann) Roembke. He was baptized and confirmed at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Milwaukee and graduated from Milwaukee Lutheran High School. He graduated from UW Farm Short Course in Madison in 1955 and then worked for the Postal Service from 1955 until 1993, primarily as a rural letter carrier in Mequon WI. He also served as a member of the Army Reserves from 1957 to 1966.
He married the love of his life, Sylvia Riemer, on June 13, 1959. They then bought the 77-acre farm in the Town of Jackson and after raising pigs for about 5 years, they switched to Hampshire sheep. Dick was very active in the WI sheep industry and served as the Secretary/Treasurer for the Wisconsin Sheep Breeders for 20 years. He was also a strong supporter of 4-H and was a long-time volunteer at the Washington County Ag Industrial Society, Washington County Fair, and was one of the founding members of the Meat Animal Sale for the fair. He enjoyed being a member of the Wisconsin Antique Power Reunion tractor club. He was also inducted into the Wisconsin State Fair Sheep Barn Hall of Fame. He received the Honorary Recognition Award from the UW Alumni College of Ag & Life Sciences for his contributions to sheep and agricultural industry. He also served on the Appeals Board for the Town of Jackson. As active as he was with 4-H and farming, his faith in Jesus as his Lord and Savior was foremost in his life. He also served on numerous committees (education, trustee, chairman, building committee) at Trinity Lutheran Church on Pleasant Valley Road. He was a strong advocate for Christian education and was active in the formation of Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School. He was respected for his integrity which grew out of his Christian faith. He did not let the grass grow under his feet.
The marriage was blessed with 4 children: David (Barbara) Roembke, Linda (Ronald) Eickstedt, Mark (Julie) Roembke, and Ellen Dehnel. Also survived by grandchildren Angela (Kevin Kissinger), Kevin (Becca) Eickstedt, Erin (Justin) Wilder, Rebecca Roembke, Danya Dehnel, and Evyn Dehnel, also great grandchildren Cheyenne, Ila, Sierra, Waylon, Rhett, Hank, Kash, and Bristol. His sister Susan Heller also survives. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Sylvia, his wife for 61 years. Also preceding him in death were his sisters Ruth (Vic) Williams, Doris (Larry) Griffin, and Nancy (Bob) Lehrman, brother-in-law Gilbert Heller and grandson Jacob Eickstedt.
Services will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at 3:00pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1268 Pleasant Valley Rd. Jackson, WI with visitation from 12:00pm until 2:45pm. Internment will be in Trinity Church Cemetery immediately following services.
Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School.
