Ray LaVon Bednar, 86, of Polk Twp., Washington County Wisconsin, passed away peacefully to his eternal heavenly home in the early morning of November 14, 2024, just 10 weeks following the passing of his beloved wife of 64 years.
Ray was born January 10, 1938 to Rachel (Shaw) Bednar and Theodore Bednar in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was the youngest of seven children. When Ray was a young adolescent, his father passed-away, requiring him to begin working to support himself and his widowed mother. Ray worked many different jobs before becoming a truck driver, hauling steel. Later, he joined the Armed Services and served in the Army Reserves.
Ray was united in marriage to Joan A Papenthien on July 2, 1960 in Milwaukee Wisconsin.
For many years, Ray was involved in Sales & Marketing and worked to develop above-ground mausoleum projects for the Catholic Archdiocese, as well as other non-denominational cemeteries throughout Wisconsin, Florida and New Mexico.
Throughout his adult life, but especially after retirement, he loved to "tinker" and work on various "projects" around his home, property and the homes of family members.
Over the years, he and wife Joan enjoyed hosting many seasonal gatherings.
Ray enjoyed a variety of activities including: building and remodeling, mechanic work, racing stock cars, hiking, biking, fishing, boating, camping, snowmobiling and cross country skiing.
He enjoyed traveling throughout his life but especially following retirement when he and his wife spent many winters down in Texas and Arizona in their self contained motor home.
Ray is survived by his adult children: Karen Bednar (Slinger Wi.), James Bednar & wife Kippi Bednar (rural Mayville Wi.), Grandchildren: Hannah Casper & husband Michael Casper (FondduLac Wi.), Jasmin Breitzman Ellershaw & husband Garret Breitzman Ellershaw (Lomira/Brownsville Wi.), Leah Bednar (Dallas Tx.), Isaiah Bednar (FondduLac Wi.), and Ryan Russell (Slinger Wi.). Great Grandchildren: Hunter Blanchard & Leonidas Casper. Further survived by family members including nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ray was preceded in death by Joan, his wife of 64 years, his parents Theodore and Rachel Bednar, his siblings and other family and friends.

An Interment Service with military honors for the family was held in Ray's honor Tuesday November 19, 2024 at Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend, Wisconsin.
A Celebration of Ray's Life for family and friends is planned for Sunday, December 8, 2024 @ 2pm at Cedar Springs Church, 3128 Slinger Rd., Slinger Wisconsin.
