Obituary

Michael G. (Mike) Maurer passed away peacefully on January 19, 2025, at the Clement Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI at the age of 78.  He is survived by his sister, Cheryl (late Bill) Bogard, his brother Mark (Taryn), nieces Sherri Dziedzic and Elise Maurer, nephew Shane (Miranda) Maurer and great niece, Rosalee Maurer, as well as many dear friends including his Wisconsin family. Though he was raised in Manistee, MI, where he graduated from Manistee High School, he resided in Wisconsin for a large portion of his life.

Mike was a 2-time Bronze Star decorated veteran, who served in Vietnam as a combat medic.    He was most proud of his work as a medical advisor regarding PTSD, alongside his good friend and colleague, Mike Orban, at the Medical College of Wisconsin, through the Warrior Partnership program. He continued to advise, serve, and support this program for more than a decade. Mike was dedicated to helping veterans suffering from PTSD. He played a crucial role in teaching medical students, and doctors on how to approach, communicate, and help veterans suffering from PTSD. His guidance was instrumental in launching the Warrior Partnership program, and left a profound impact on both the medical students and the veterans they served. His legacy lives on through the medical students, who are now doctors treating veterans with PTSD.

He was very passionate about golfing. He was a PGA Class "A" Golf Professional. He loved sharing his golf expertise with family and friends and was an excellent teacher and student of the game. He was a long-time member of Hon-E-Kor Golf & Country Club located in West Bend, Wi. He leaves behind many lifelong friendships and fond memories (including a hole in one) with his extended "golf family" at Hon-E-Kor.

He was a proud graduate of The American College of Financial Services, becoming a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), and Chartered Financial Consultant (CHFC). Mike was employed in the insurance industry as a district manager at Modern Woodman of America, where he trained and led a team of insurance agents. Mike was awarded "Manager Roundtable", and "Inner Circle" status, as one of the top 5 districts in the country.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 12:00PM until 12:45PM, with a prayer service at 1:00PM, at the Phillip Funeral Home, 1420 W. Paradise Dr. with Military Honors. The burial will take place at a later date.

He wanted to express his heartfelt thanks to his medical team of doctors and nurses at the VA Hospital, as well as the care provided by his home health care aide, Ariel. He was grateful for all of their assistance.
