Obituary
Michael Gerard Boden, age 66, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee after a brief illness. He was born on October 21, 1958, on small farm in West Bend to Daniel and Patricia (nee Esser) Boden. Mike graduated from Kewaskum High School in 1976 and then from MPTC Fond du Lac with an associate degree in Agricultural Mechanics in 1978. He married his love, Mary (nee Hofmaier) May 20, 1983, at St Matthias in Nabob. Together they raised their family in Nenno, WI.
Mike was an avid outdoorsman with a deep respect for nature. He enjoyed camping, deer hunting and fishing with his family and friends. Farming continued to be a passion throughout his life, always willing to lend a helping hand and even lose a finger for. He also had a prized collection of several old tractors that he enjoyed fixing up and using to their fullest potential (earning him the name of "Grandpa Tractor" from his young grandchildren).
He also loved the simple pleasures of country life—gardening, making home maple syrup and apple cider from his trees, cutting wood to heat his home. In his retirement years he enjoyed his daily walks "around the block" with his faithful companion Greta as he checked out the local crops and chatted with the neighbors.
Mike was also an amazing handyman—he could fix almost anything around the house and in the garage—often using very innovative methods! The kids used the term "Mike-Gyver" to describe his unique and amazing ways of fixing just about anything. He was the happiest when he was asked to help out with anything from anyone!
One of the biggest highlights in Mike's retirement years was his trip to Germany this past September to attend his oldest son's wedding in Munich along with all his children and grandchildren. It was a true blessing for him to be able to make this trip and the memories and pictures we will treasure in our hearts.
Mike is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary; children, Brett (Vivian Wurf) of Alling, Germany, Kaitlyn (Lucas) Dorn of Onalaska, WI and Nicholas (fiancée Dawn Jahnke) of Oshkosh; his grandchildren Oliver and Ruby Dorn and Evelyth Davis. He is further survived by his brother Richard (Kim) Boden of Plover, WI; his brother-in Law Jim (Therese) Hofmaier of West Bend, and sister-in-law Amy Connelly of Mt. Pleasant, WI, along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his father and mother-in law, Francis and Shirley Hofmaier.
A Memorial Service will be at 5:00pm on Friday, January 3, 2025 at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel (1420 W Paradise Dr. West Bend, WI 53095) with Fr. Richard Stoffel presiding. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, January 3rd from 2:00pm until 4:45pm. Private family interment at St. Matthias Cemetery in Nabob.
Mike was known to offer his help to family, friends and strangers alike without hesitation. We ask that you honor him by holding him in your heart as you help another.
