Mary T. Krieps, age 89, of West Bend passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2018 in the presence of family in West Bend. A memorial gathering will be held in the Courtyard Kitchen at Cedar Bay East Assisted Living (5577 Home Dr., West Bend) on Friday, March 30 at 5pm.
Mary is survived by daughters Catharine, Julianne, and Martha (John), her five grandchildren, Arielle, Sierra, Riley, Adam and David, and her brother Clarence (Joan) of Grafton, WI. She is preceded in death by husband Kenneth K ("Ken") Krieps, her parents Clarence Joseph and Catharine Martha, brothers Daniel and Phil, and grandson Benjamin.
Mary was born on April 29, 1928 in Milwaukee, WI. She graduated from Messmer High School in Milwaukee, completed secretarial school and worked in a regional Pontiac Motors office. She married Ken on July 29, 1950. After her youngest daughter entered school Mary worked as a library aide at Hartford Union High School for the next 25 years. After a brief stint as a full-time retiree she became a part-time college student at UW-Washington County and a part-time travel agent at All Ways Travel of Hartford and Slinger, a job she held for nearly 15 years. She concluded her career as a part-time copy editor at the Hartford Booster, finally retiring "for real" at age 80.
Next to her family, Mary loved travel. She and Ken enjoyed extensive international travel during their retirement, including a tour of South America to celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2000.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mary's name are appreciated to St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 4886 Hwy 175 in Hartford.
