Obituary

Marjorie “Marge” D. Gonring passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28, surrounded by the sounds of her favorite Irish music—a fitting farewell.
Marge was born on May 18, 1939, to Roman “Doc” and Victoria Gonring. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, David Gonring. She is survived by her brother, Thomas Gonring (Mary), and their children Laurie (Lloyd) LaDuke and Jonathan (Tamara) Gonring; her sister, Sarah (Bob) Blas, and their children Valerie (Luke) Gootee and Katie Fredenburg; sister-in-law Joyce Gonring and her children Doug (Karen) Gonring, Bob (Karen) Gonring, Mary Jo (Mike) Otten, and Kathy (Doug) Buechel; along with many great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends whose lives were deeply touched by her care, generosity, and quiet presence.
Marge devoted much of her life to caring for others through her work in healthcare, including the nursery at St. Joseph’s Hospital, St. Vincent’s in Chicago, and several physician practices. In these roles, she formed lasting relationships and made a difference in countless lives through compassion, dedication, and kindness.
She had a deep love for the arts and adventure, delighting in taking family members to plays, musicals, zoos, and special outings—especially trips to Brookfield Zoo, where giraffes and dolphin shows were longtime favorites. Arizona became her cherished escape from Wisconsin winters, where she shared many happy memories with family and friends. Ireland also held a special place in her heart through travels shared with close friends and her enduring love of Irish music and culture.
Marge was a devoted baseball fan who delighted in taking family and friends to ballparks near and far, patiently teaching us how to keep score and never forgetting the essentials: chocolate chip cookies and tuna sandwiches. This past year, she happily returned to the ballpark for a Milwaukee Brewers game, relishing both the game and the time spent there with Doug and Bob.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Aspen and Preceptor for the care, dignity, and kindness they provided to Marge.
In true fashion, Marge made an Irish goodbye. She requested no service or visitation; however, a celebration of her life will be held by family. Those wishing to honor her memory are invited to make a donation to the West Bend Baseball Association or Shalom Wildlife Zoo.
