Obituary

Luanne E. Lukowski (nee Schmidt) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the age of 86, after her battle with lung cancer. In March of 2024 she was given a 2 to 4 months prognosis, and in true Luanne fashion, she said "That's Crazy!" and gave us a gift of over 11 months!

Luanne was born in Thorp, WI, daughter of the late George and Eleanor Schmidt. She graduated from Thorp High School class of 1956. After graduation, she moved to Milwaukee to go to comptometer school and met the love of her life, Thomas A. Lukowski on Governor Pier. They married on June 18, 1960, at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Milwaukee, WI and started a family of three girls.

Luanne began her career at Sealtest and told us stories of all the ice cream she could sample on the job. When the kids were little, she worked in the home doing telemarketing calls/surveys and also ironing for clients who would bring their clothes to her each week. Once the kids were in school, she started working as a bookkeeper at an insurance agency until she retired. She also worked for the elections throughout the years at the Journal/Sentinel building downtown leading the teams to tally the votes for Wisconsin. She told us for Kennedy's election she had a team of 60 people.

She enjoyed being a leader and was the secretary for the St Margaret Mary women's bowling league at Petroff's for many years. When they moved to Slinger she became the secretary of the Thursday night league at Kettle Moraine Bowl. Other things she helped lead throughout her life were her high school reunions, class of 56, many different church fundraisers like rummage sales, fish fries, festivals, and charity bowls. She also volunteered at the school library.

For fun, Luanne enjoyed reading, playing cards, board games, ceramics, scrapbooking, working on her family tree books, bowling, sewing, diamond art, camping all over the US with her family, yearly visits to their Florida timeshare, and spending time with family and friends at their cottage. Her laughter was contagious to all who knew her.

Luanne is survived by her husband Thomas of 65 years; daughters Sheri (Tom) Smith, Sandy (Jim) Mennen, and Janice (Rich) Schultz; grandchildren Courtney (Jon) Arganek, Carley Smith, Nicole (Alex) O'Connor, Kimberly (Zach) Lind, Maddie (Sam) Jackson, and Connor Schultz; great-grandchildren Finn, Ezra, Berkley, and Tobias. She is further survived by siblings Gordy (Cindy) Schmidt, Harold (Diane) Schmidt, and Luellyn (Rich) Wickershiem; siblings-in-law, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Luanne was preceded in death by her parents.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 9:00am until 10:45am, with a Funeral Mass at 11:00am, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 200 E Washington St., Slinger, WI, Inurnment will be at New St. Peter Cemetery at 2:00pm. Memorial donations in Luanne's name may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church in Slinger, WI.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the Aurora Health at Home Hospice team.
