Obituary

Larry Jay Hoien, age 76, of Jackson, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at St. Joseph's Hospital, West Bend. He was born on November 2, 1941 to Jay and Evelyn (nee Smith) Hoien in Estherville, Iowa. He graduated from Estherville High School Class of 1958 and served in the US Army. He married Marie (nee Setter) on February 19, 1966 in Estherville, Iowa.

Larry Jay started radio in 1964. His first job was at KRAD in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. He has made stops at stations in Iowa, WAUK-AM in Waukesha, WRIT-AM and WYLO-AM, WEZW-FM and WFMR-FM in Milwaukee. He also did on-air work and book announcing at Channel 6 in Milwaukee. Larry joined WTKM Radio in June of 1997 working on-air and in the sales department until his retirement.

Larry loved his wife, children and career very much. His one regret was that he did not have a chance to say goodbye to his listeners...he loved them all.

He considered his many clients and co-workers as friends and loved to tell jokes and make everyone laugh.

Larry always signed off his radio segments with "Kindness is the language the mute can speak and the deaf can hear."

He was a member of Northbrook Church.

Larry is survived by his loving wife Marie; son Paul Hoien; daughter Connie Campbell; son-in-law Marty Campbell; granddaughter Emily Torpy; grandson Mitchell Campbell; brother David Hoien; sister-in-law Margaret Hoien; nieces Laura Hoien and Sondra Hoien.

A Gathering with the family will be on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Schauer Arts and Activities Center (147 N. Rural St., Hartford) from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
