Kenneth William "Ken" Sipes, age 79, died like he lived-quietly, after a 10-year battle with cancer, on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at the Kathy Hospice in West Bend with his wife by his side. He was born on September 9, 1944 to Kenneth and Florence (nee Koepsel) Sipes. Ken was many things: kind, caring, incredibly bright, cautious, reserved and patient beyond measure. He was hesitant to stand out or speak up, but when he did, his contribution was surprising and often witty. In the heat of 1987 summer Ken married his love, Joyce (nee Frauenfelder).
He loved working with his hands-in his wood shop, in the kitchen, in his basket studio- teaching himself to weave Nantucket Baskets creating a business, both him and Joyce, called North Star Baskets. Ken enjoyed golfing, reading, crossword puzzles, cribbage, his home brew and traveling. Ken was a quiet man, hard to get to know, but when you knew him-you knew you would never have a more loyal, helpful and generous friend.
Ken is survived by his wife of 37 years, Joyce; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Dodge; nieces and nephews; Kelly Leffler, Chuck (Julie) Dodge, David (Linda) Dodge; great-nephews, Nathan (Alyssa) Dodge, Sam (Emma) Dodge and great-niece, Mary (Sam) Hauser. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law Fred and Mary Frauenfelder; sister Karen Leffler, nephew John Leffler and his Aunt Jenny Koepsel.
A Celebration of Life for Ken will be on July 15, 2024 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at The Hub (303 Water St. West Bend, WI 53090).
