Obituary

With great sadness, the family of Joyce Elaine Flader, age 90, of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, announces her passing on Wednesday, November 12, at Cedar Community in West Bend.

Joyce was born in Sheboygan, WI, in December 1934 and lived in Sheboygan until she left for college at UW Madison and Marian College. She was married to Tom Flader for 42 years and had 2 great children. Joyce was a dedicated and beloved elementary teacher at Roberts Elementary School, where she shaped the lives of countless children for decades.

A gifted athlete throughout her life, Joyce was a championship tennis player with 35 trophies at last count, a fierce downhill skier, strong swimmer, avid bridge player, Sheepshead, and Scrabble enthusiast. She was generous, funny, kind, and never had a bad word to say about anyone. She spent many happy years at Lake DeNeveu and Morningside Village, where she built cherished memories with family and friends.

Joyce was passionate about her family, her garden, birdwatching, and cheering for the Packers, Bucks, Brewers, and Badgers.

Joyce was preceded in death by her son, Steve, her parents, Ben and Cecilia Keil, her former husband Tom Flader, and many in-laws.

She is survived by her daughter Joan (Sean) Kelly, daughter-in-law Janice Flader, grandchildren Jake (Deanna) Flader, Ian Flader, Lauren (Jeremy Poff) Flader, Patrick (Jill) Kelly, Sara (Brandon) Jarva, and great-grandchildren Hayley, and James Flader, Odesa Kelly, and Joel Poff.



She is also survived by siblings, Lois Behring, Mary Ritonia, Jerry Keil, John  (Debbie) Keil and many loving nieces and nephews.

Joyce will be remembered for her warmth, humor, curiosity, and unfailing kindness. She touched many lives and leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and compassion.

The family greatly appreciates the compassionate care she received at Cedar Community which brought great comfort to Joyce and her family.

A celebration of life will be held on June 14th, 2026 at 4:00 at the Winnebago Park clubhouse (N9502 Winnebago Park Road, Fond du Lac, WI)
