John Joseph Henke, age 81, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025 at the Aurora Medical Center in Grafton with family by his side. He was born on January 25, 1943 to John and Elizabeth (nee Hubacker) Henke.
John was an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially loved deer hunting every fall with his family up at the cabin his brother Don and him built in Glidden, WI. Rumor has it that if one of the hunters missed a deer, they would have to have the back of their shirt cut off and hung up on the wall with all the others throughout the years. Some of which were John's. (Rooster Tail??) He also enjoyed writing short stories.
John was an amazing person. He worked hard all of his life to make sure Kathy, and his family were well cared for. He respected and treated people with kindness, and everyone loved being around him. We all really enjoyed sharing stories together with him and it's going to be hard not to have that anymore, but we know he's with God, his siblings, parents, and so many others who are rejoicing with him in Heaven.
John is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kathy; children, Cheri (Bill) Schank, Brian Schneider, Tracy Peters, Chris (Kevin) Peterson; grandchildren, Randy (Shelby) Henke, Dylan (Mariah) Henke, Cheyenne (Jake) Meier, Miranda Schneider, Kaylee Schneider, Nick Peters, Justin Peters, Zack Peters, Katie Peters, Haley Peterson, Tristan Peterson; siblings, Thomas (Mary) Henke, Mary ( Michael) Flanders, Carol (Van) Kinnunen, Richard Henke; sister-in-law, Linda Henke. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law Jim Peters; siblings, Dorothy (Robert) Mayer, Darlene Lehn, Donald Henke and Michael Henke.
A Memorial Service with Military Honors to follow will start at 3:00pm on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel (1420 W Paradise Dr. West Bend). Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday, January 16th from 1:00pm until 2:45pm.
A special thank you to Aurora Medical Center.
