Obituary

Jerome "Shorty" Held, 96, passed on to his heavenly home on Friday, May 29, 2015, at Kathy's Hospice after suffering a stroke. Jerome was born on September 12, 1918 to Henry and Anna. He married Dolores F. Gundrum on November 15, 1941. They were blessed with a long, wonderful marriage before her passing on March 31, 2013.

He is survived by seven children, Beth (John) Bacik, Sr. Margaret Held, Jean (Andy) Knoll, Sue (Joe) Zuern, Jim (Mary) Held, Annette (Peter Schulz) Held, and Tony (Karen) Held, 13 grandchildren and
9 great-grandchildren.

Jerome was preceded in death by Dolores, their daughter, Mary (Ed) Reidell, his parents, and parents-in-law, Joseph and Anna Gundrum. He is the last of his siblings, Frances Panten, Walter, Robert, Raymond, Edward, Eugene, Marie Mullen, Dorothy Lorch, Margaret Wagner, and James.

Jerome raised his family in the Slinger area, resided in Hartford and lived at Cedar Bay East until his stroke. He was a lifetime member and oldest member of St. Peter's Parish where he served as one of the first parish council members. For many years, Jerome was a talented auto body repairman. He eventually worked for the Slinger School District in the maintenance department. To this day, many former students and teachers remember "Shorty".

During World War II, Jerome was stationed in Norfolk, VA as an Aviation Metalsmith 1st Class. He was very proud of his and his brother, Jim's, service to our Country. In 2012, he was privileged to participate in the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight. He was a handyman who could fix anything, which contributed greatly in raising 8 children. Working long hours and sacrificing much, his family always came first. He taught many the value of hard work, the pride of accomplishment, and was admired for his honesty and integrity.

Visitation will be at St. Peter's Catholic Church (200 E. Washington St., Slinger) on Sunday, May 31st from 2:30 PM until 5:15 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 5:30 PM with Fr.
