Jean S. Schroeder (nee Treichel), age 89 years, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at the Cottages at Cedar Run in West Bend.
Jean was born and raised in Burlington, WI where she graduated with honors from Burlington High School in 1945. Looking forward to a food service career, she enrolled in the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was granted a B.S. Degree in Institutional Food Management in 1949. At UW, Jean met the love of her life Walt Schroeder. They married in September 1949 and moved to Wauwatosa, where they raised three children Sue, Sandy, and Bob. As Food Service Administrator for the Wauwatosa Public Schools, Jean oversaw the daily planning, preparation, and delivery of thousands of lunches to elementary, junior and high school students. Jean is remembered as a devoted wife, mother and career woman.
Jean retired in 1985 and happily made a permanent home on Little Cedar Lake in West Bend. Jean and Walt enjoyed many years of travel, swimming, boating and family get-togethers. A life-long church member, she was an active volunteer at Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church, and later attended Still Waters United Methodist Church in Jackson. She is remembered as an avid reader and loved to play bridge. Jean's positive outlook and gentle wisdom will be missed.
She is survived by two daughters Susan Schroeder Halter and Sandra Schroeder, son Robert Schroeder, grandson Bryan Halter, great-grandchildren Eric Halter and Amelia Rose Halter, and brother Thomas Treichel. Jean is preceded in death by her husband Walton M. Schroeder and parents Carl and Ermina Treichel.
The family would like to extend its gratitude to all of the wonderful and loving caregivers who came into Jean's life from Cedar Bay East, to the Friendship House and finally the Cottages. She loved you all and was so grateful for everything you did. We feel the same and thank you for taking such wonderful care of her.
