Obituary

Horst "Ed" Mitscherling, age 79 years, entered Eternal Life in Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 6, 2018. He was born on November 2, 1938 in Germany and lived most of his childhood in Prien am Chiemsee. Ed was trained as a pastry chef and cake decorator working at hotels and "Konditorei" throughout Bavaria. After immigrating to Milwaukee in 1956 he met Irmgard Koeslin, also from Germany arriving in 1953, at a dance at the Eagles Ballroom. They were married on February 7, 1959 at Garden Homes Lutheran Church.

Ed is survived by his wife Irmgard "Schatzel"; his children Diane (Russ) Sobotta and Karin (Ivan) Mitscherling; Opa to Ted and Lizzy Sobotta; Tony Colella and Eric Seidl; Great Opa to Jaxon Seidl; his brother-in-law Werner (Elaine) Koeslin; his canine companion Struppy and pet bird Spatzie, niece, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents Oskar and Anna Mitscherling, two brothers Oscar (Helen) Mitchell and Peter (Karin) Mitscherling.

Ed was a sailor and an active member of Pike Lake Yacht Club for over 40 years; serving in leadership positions and was a past Commodore. He enjoyed racing sailboats and participated in many regattas. When he was not sailing he enjoyed motor boating, and kayaked daily for many years around Pike Lake. Sometimes he would be seen mountain biking with his dog in a basket around Pike Lake State Park. He always enjoyed sharing a good joke and will be greatly missed by family and friends!

A Celebration of Life for Ed will be held at a later date.
