Herbert Larsen Jr. died peacefully at home September 9th, 2025, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Herb's early life growing up on the farm was always an adventure as one of eleven children. It was during his younger years that he developed an aptitude for mechanical work and became skilled at how to shape the landscapes around him. In 1972, Herb married his first and forever love, Janice Foucault, and together they later added their son, Herb Larsen III, and daughter, Jodie Beining (nee Larsen) to their family. After working for several years as a heavy equipment mechanic, Herb went to work in commercial landscaping at Northern Landscape Contractors, a company he eventually purchased. Under his leadership, Northern became one of the largest installers of retaining wall block in the Midwest and many of his projects can still be seen standing today at places like American Family Field. After work hours, Herb could be found helping his son with construction projects, working on repairs at his daughter's house, checking things off of Janice's honey-do list or squeezing in a round of golf. Following a successful career, Herb and Janice moved to North Myrtle Beach to enjoy their retirement golfing and spending time with the many friends they made there.
Herb always said the most important thing in life is family and he was grateful to be able to return to Wisconsin to spend his last month with those he loved. He is survived by his wife, Janice, daughter Jodie (Karl), son Herb (Lisa), grandchildren (Juliette, Cordelia, Mason and Vincent), brothers, sisters, cousins, and too many friends to count both in Wisconsin and North Myrtle Beach.
The family will communicate celebration of life details in October.
