IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gregory
Miller
April 24, 1942 – October 22, 2025
On October 22, 2025, Gregory H. Miller took his final lap and crossed the finish line. A high-performance car enthusiast, and race driving instructor, he spent many happy hours driving his 206 corvette on Road America and tracks around the country.
Born in Milwaukee to Henry and Dorothy (Rankin) Miller on April 24, 1942, he graduated from Sturgeon Bay high School in 1960 and enlisted in the US Navy. Greg served 4 years assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Midway. Stationed on the flight deck, he loved to tell stories of planes trying to land in 30 ft seas. A proud veteran, he often said the Navy straightened him out.
Returning to Milwaukee, he immediately secured jobs at the Workshop for the Blind, Sentry Foods, and the Bluemound Drive In theater. Those earnings, together with support from the GI bill, enabled him to attend theMilwaukee School of Engineering, graduating with a degree in electrical engineering, followed later by a master's degree in engineering management. The desire to design, build, and create led him to the West Bend Company, where he worked 30+ years. Beginning in research and development, he rose to Senior Vice President of R&D and Operations, along the way earning a master's in business administration from the executive program at UW-Milwaukee. He was well known and respected for his active role in supporting and improving local businesses.
His work took him around the world, with frequent travel to Asia. He logged so many miles, often spending more than half of the year away, that he became one of Delta's first Million Milers. He served on the board of MSOE, mentored emerging companies, and as the last Chairman of the Board for St. Joesph's Hospital, was instrumental in bringing a new hospital and Froedtert to West Bend.
A life well served.
Greg's greatest joy was rooted in his family. His wife of 59 years Kristine (Hansen),the cashier/teacher he met at the drive in, and their sons Craig and Matthew were his center. Greg was especially proud of his boys who grew up to be well educated, thoughtful, independent business owners. He greatly appreciated their wives as Stephanie and Laura continually enrich our lives with their giving spirits. The Grandchildren, Thomas and Violet are following in his tradition of detail and excellence in education, robotics and engineering. A dozen dogs were his constant companions.
Others who shared his life and will miss him are sister Linda Hinners (Duane), sister-in law Holly Wochos, brother-in-law Mark Hansen (Cathleen), nieces, nephews, many friends and the Sturgeon Bay golfing buddies. Friends have spoken of him as a man of great integrity, generous, helpful and caring.
A life well loved.
An avid outdoors man, Greg enjoyed gardening, trap shooting, golf, and fishing. Trips to secluded Canadian lakes produced many joyous moments with huge northern pike that were proudly photographed and returned to the water. During the winter months, his hobby was woodworking, creating finely crafted oak furniture that his family treasures. Early retirement opened the door to new adventures, and Greg opted for high performance car racing. With Road America being the"home track", Greg and a fellow racer co-founded GT Racing Tires LLC to recycle used professional racing tires and sponsor track events. An annual cruise became the tradition and laughing at the waves returned.
A life well lived.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Greg's life on Saturday November 15th at Phillips Funeral Home 1420 W Paradise Dr, West Bend WI . Visitation only from 9AM -11AM. Donations to The Crane Foundation, Milwaukee School of Engineering or Wounded Warriors appreciated in lieu of flowers.
