Obituary

Garett "Gary" J. Ackatz, age 58, passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on Friday, July 14, 2023 at his home in Kewaskum. He was born on May 13, 1965 in Milwaukee, WI to James and Karen Ackatz (now Hunter). After trying his hand at a few things, including several years as a butcher at Komp's Meat Market in Hartford, Gary found his work "home" with the Washington County Sheriff's Department, where, after 28 years of service, he retired from in May 2022.

Over the years, Gary enjoyed a variety of things from his time with the Hartford Volunteer Fire Department, to motorcycling, to all things fire arms related; hunting, teaching Hunter's Safety classes, building guns, and restoring antique guns.

Gary is survived by his daughter, Megan Ackatz; parents, Richard (step-father) & Karen Hunter; sister, Kristine (John) Birky; Godmother and Aunt, Mardi (Paul) Sachse; step-son, Adam Wagner (Danielle Zavala); mother of Megan, Janine Komp; his "brothers" by choice, Dale (Lisa) Roeseler and Keith (Jodi) Roeseler. He is also survived by several uncles, aunts, cousins and numerous wonderful friends.

Gary is preceded in death by his father, James Ackatz.
