Frank J. Derer passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2013 at the age of 87 years.
Frank was born on February 6, 1926 in Madison to Marcus and Frances (nee Undras) Derer. He married the love of his life, Alice Harrison, on September 4, 1948 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Madison. Frank proudly served his country as a veteran of WWII in the United States Navy.
Frank received his master's plus from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Art & Education. He went on to dedicate over 37 years as an art teacher in the West Bend school district. He had a passion for painting, but he also enjoyed jewelry, pottery, and woodworking. He was also involved in the West Bend Art Gallery. To this day, many of Frank's artworks are displayed and cherished in the homes of family and friends.
Frank was an avid fan of the Packers, Brewers, and Bucks. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Frank always put others first and was a prime example of kindness and generosity. He was a member of both the National Education Association and Jesus Our Shepherd in Nenno.
Frank is survived by his wife of 67 years, Alice; children Judy (Mike) Nee, Barb (Tom) Krutza, and Jim (Sandy) Derer; grandchildren Dan (Karla), and Dustin Mayer, Lindsay (Adam Schroeder) Nee, Jeff (Tiffany) Krutza, Jamie (Nick Cotrill) Krutza, Sarah (Luke) Misiak, and Mike Derer; and great-grandchildren Kassidi and Jaxon Krutza and Drew and Evan Misiak. He is further survived by his sister-in-law Ida Motiff, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. Frank is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
A Memorial Service for Frank will be at 2:30 PM on Friday, November 8, 2013 at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel, 1420 W. Paradise Dr. in West Bend with Fr. Frank Baiocchi presiding. Gathering will be at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until 2:15 PM on Friday.
