Evelyn "Tooty" E. Schleif (nee Kudek), age 93, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024 at New Perspective Betty's Harbor in West Bend. She was born on December 22, 1930, in Kewaskum, WI, to Clarence and Clara (nee Backhaus) Kudek.
Tooty attended school in Kewaskum and it was in high school where she fell in love with her Prince Charming, Neal Schleif. He was the star quarterback and Tooty delighted in being his number one cheerleader. They married shortly after graduating from high school and began raising a large, loud, and energetic family filled with much laughter and love.
Tooty thrived in her career as a full-time mother and wife. When Neal and Tooty's youngest child entered 5th grade, she began her career outside the home working full time at West Bend High Schools in the office as the "Xerox Lady."
Tooty showed all of us what it meant to be a wonderful lifetime friend. She and four other girls (one was her sister, Florence) became friends in grade school and remained best friends and confidants throughout their entire lives. The five chatted regularly, gathered monthly for dinners and events, were in each other's weddings and gradually grew into a "Monthly Card Club" with spouses. While the men all enjoyed the monthly poker games, the women never did anything but chat, provide meals and love each other's company!
Tooty enjoyed camping with her husband Neal, and they passed on the joy of camping with their children, grandchildren and even their great grandchildren. After retirement they took their camping across the country and came back with wild stories of their adventures. Tooty and Neal were an inseparable duo in life. They were just days away from celebrating their 77th anniversary when Neal passed away just weeks ago.
Tooty is forever loved and cherished by her five children: Richard, Dr. Kathleen Roth (Dr. Daniel), Jane Coyle (Greg), Michael, and Jerry. She is the loving grandmother of Sara Isom (Jeffrey), Andrew Roth (Julie), Matthew Coyle (Jennifer), Jean Schleif, Cole and Drue Schleif. Tooty has strongly influenced her great-grandchildren, Joseph, Kathleen, Ho-su, Younhee and Henry Isom, Michael and Robert Coyle, Brady and Abby Anderson, and Kameron Lauber. Tooty is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Schleif, and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and friends.
Three weeks ago Neal preceded Tooty in death, three days shy of their 77th wedding anniversary. She is further preceded in death by her granddaughter Leigh Coyle Anderson, daughter-in-law Eileen Schleif, her only sibling Florence Wolf, brother-in-law Robert Wolf, as well as her parents and brothers-in-law David, Philip, Ross, and Charles, and sister-in-law, Gladys Schleif Farnham.
Private Graveside Services will be held for Tooty at Washington County Memorial Park where she and her beloved husband Neal, will be placed.
In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.
A special thank you to Harmony Cares Hospice, particularly the excellent loving care of Kelly, Kerry, and Andrea. Both Neal and Tooty grew to love these ladies like their children.
