Ervin C. Gonnering, 93, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014. He was born in the Town of Barton on August 19, 1920 to the late Frank and Hilda (nee Weddig). He graduated from West Bend High School and served in the US Army Pennsylvania 28 Battery C as a Forward Observer during WWII. He worked at the West Bend Company for years and later retired from the Washington County Highway Department in road maintenance.
Ervin loved woodworking, fishing, hunting, taking walks, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the West Bend VFW Post 1393.
He is survived by his wife, Viola Gonnering (nee Anders); sons, Joseph and Mark (Sandra); grandchildren, Bonnie (Ronald Kemmel) Aman, Nancy (Brian) Jordan, Steven (Kimberly), Bridgette, Samantha, and Danielle Gonnering; great-grandchildren, Cortney, Clayton Juech, Hunter, Jacob, Calvin, Zachary, Annabelle, and Anthony; brothers-in-law, David Anders and Carl Bohn; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret (Lee) Becker and Doris Bohn.
The Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel (1420 W Paradise Drive, West Bend, WI 53095). The Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 PM with Military Honors to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center (5000 W National Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53295).
