Obituary

Engelbert Paul Stoiber, 99, went home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 9, 2026. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on April 5, 1927.

He was a Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, Bert or Paul or Junior to family and friends. He led a long and wonderful life which provided him with many memories to reflect on during his later years. He loved his family.

He often spoke of his time in the Navy with great pride. He enjoyed camping, fishing and going to baseball games in his younger years. After the children were raised, he and his wife Lois enjoyed traveling throughout the world, taking many cruises. They also traveled extensively throughout the United States. He loved to drive and would often cite how many miles he traveled. After retirement they moved to a retirement community in Surprise, AZ., where he played horseshoes and golf, visited the casinos, hiked the parks and mountain areas. He had a lifelong love of games, playing chess and cards. He loved Sheepshead and Hand and Foot and played these games up until the age of 98. He loved the Catholic faith and attended Mass up until 2 days before his passing.

He is survived by his children, Karen (Steve) Schreiber, Patricia (Steve) Waala, Matthew Stoiber and Janet Stoiber; his grandchildren, Mark (Megan) Schreiber, Adam (Stephanie) Schreiber, David (Kim) Karnes, Cassandra (Brady) Butz, Amanda Luebke and Olivia Stoiber; and great-grandchildren, AJ Schreiber, Myles Schreiber, Owen Schreiber, Hannah Karnes, Alex Karnes, Jordan (Marissa) Malvick, Haiden Luebke, Khloe Luebke, Isabella Butz, as well as many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois and his daughter Barbara; his parents, Engelbert and Catherine (Bertz) Stoiber and his siblings, Raymond Stoiber, Katherine Johnson, Margaret Hartel, Johanna Ritzman, Louise Roberts, Thomas Stoiber and John Stoiber.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00am on Monday, June 22, 2026, at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (1610 Monroe St. West Bend, WI 53090) with Fr. Russ Arnett presiding. Visitation will be at church on Monday, June 22nd from 10:30am until 10:50am. Military Honors will follow Mass. According to his wishes, his cremated remains will be taken to Arizona to join those of Lois and Barbara.
