Obituary

Edith "Edie" van Vorshelen (nee Aissen) passed away on Monday, June 17, 2013 at the age of 74 years.Edie was born on August 20, 1938 in Wilhelmshaven, Germany to Hermann and Herta (nee Schmidt) Aissen. She married Hans-Rolf van Vorshelen on March 25, 1960 in Germany.
Edie dedicated many years as a nursing assistant, and then she and Hans-Rolf then went on to become the owners and operators of the Donut Depot in Port Washington. They were also longtime members of Our Saviors Lutheran Church as well. She loved needle work, word search puzzles, and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. She loved her flowers and took great pride in her garden. Edie also enjoyed cooking German meals for her family.
Edie is survived by her daughter Sabine (Chuck) Brumer and son Bernd (Jean) van Vorshelen; grandchildren Charlie and Katie Brumer; and two special goats, Angel and Isabel. She is further survived by her brother Werner (Marlene) Aissen, sisters Ilse (Bill) Weitz and Margot (Robert) Anderson; sisters-in-law Johanna (Edu) Harms and Gisela van Vorshelen, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Edie is preceded in death by her husband Hans-Rolf, her parents Hermann and Herta, parents-in-law Wilhelm and Anna van Vorshelen, step-mother Myrtle Aissen, brother-in-law Gerold Engelbrecht, and niece Kathryn Anderson.
Visitation will be at the Phillip Funeral Home, 1420 W. Paradise Dr. in West Bend from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, June 21, 2013 with a short prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. The Funeral Service for Edie will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1044 S. Silverbrook Dr. in West Bend with Rev. Darin Wiebe presiding.
The family would like to express a special Thank You to Dr. Abhay Jella, Dr. Brian Wolter, the nurses at both St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee and St. Joseph's Hospital in West Bend, everyone at the Riverway Place, and the staff at The Kathy Hospice for the their support, care, and compassion for Edie during this time.
