Doris J. Mohr (nee Tetzlaff), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many people, passed peacefully from this life to the next on December 9, 2024, following a brief period of illness at Cedar Communities in West Bend, Wisconsin.
Doris Jean Tetzlaff was born in Milwaukee, WI on September 15, 1925, the youngest of Otto and Lillian Tetzlaff's four children. She was welcomed home by her brother Gordon and sisters Ruth and Grace. It was a loving family that remained close throughout their lives. Doris attended Milwaukee schools and was a proud alumna of Rufus King High School. She met the love of her life, James Mohr, on a blind date. Doris and Jim were united in marriage on July 25, 1944.
They spent time in New Jersey and Joplin, Missouri, where Jim served in the army, prior to deploying overseas. Jim served in the Phillipines during WWII and went on to be stationed in Japan during the occupation period following the end of WWII, finally returning home to Wisconsin. Doris worked as a keypunch operator in Milwaukee while he was gone. The couple lived in Badger Village near Baraboo and in Madison while Jim completed his Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, Jim worked for a short time at Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac. In 1950, they returned to Milwaukee and Jim began working at Outboard Marine Corporation, where he spent the rest of his career. They moved to Brookfield, WI in 1955 and raised their family there.
Doris's crowning achievement and greatest joy was her family. She was a loving and supportive wife, a nurturing and involved mother, and later, a wonderful grandmother. Every grandchild was the apple of her eye, and she loved spending time with each of them. In her late eighties, she was overjoyed to become a great-grandmother, eventually gaining six great-grandchildren. Doris was a talented cook and baker, especially well known for her pies. She loved people and was the perfect hostess. She loved to sing and participated in many choirs including the Hartford Community Chorus and church choirs wherever they lived. She enjoyed many hobbies, including ceramics, square dancing, needlework, Bible study and card playing, especially bridge with their many friends. She was a cheerful, positive woman, one of whose favorite philosophies was: "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade!" Together, Doris and Jim made friends wherever they went.
Doris and Jim moved to Slinger, WI in 1979 and lived there in a beautiful country home until they moved to Cedar Communities in 1997. They enjoyed traveling the country and world together, but also enjoyed being home in Slinger, at their lake cottage in Keshena, WI, or at their condominium in Florida, where they took up playing golf and made many more friends. Doris's later years were spent in the company of the many friends made at the Cedar Communities.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, James Mohr, her parents and siblings, nieces, nephews and other family members. She is survived by her children: James Mohr Jr. (Doreen), Jeffrey Mohr (Kathy), Susan Harris (Bennette); grandchildren: Alex Mohr, Elizabeth Neighbors (Matthew), James Mohr III (Melissa), Michael Mohr, Matthew Harris (Anne) and Emily Bade (Alex); great-grandchildren: Bennette Harris, Rosalind Mohr, Maxine Harris, Edward Bade, James Mohr IV, and Jakob Bade; and by step-grandson Christopher Webb (Carina) and family.

th
Avenue, West Bend, on Sunday, December 22, 2024. Visitation and refreshments will take place in the church lounge beginning at 5 PM. The service in the church will follow at 6 PM. The family will hold a private interment ceremony at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
