Donald G. Merten, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, January 28,2026 at Aurora Medical Center in Summit, WI. He was born on March 14, 1937 in Youngstown, Ohio to Willliam and Georgianna (Nee: Schweikl) Merten. Donald served in the United States Airforce, after leaving the military, he went to teach Elementary for 36 years until his retirement. In 1960, in Park Falls, WI. Donald married Betty Schwentner, to this union four children were born.
He enjoyed writing poetry and was recognized with awards for his achievements. He loved the quiet moments spent fishing with his sons, bowling and feeding birds and watching the wildlife from the comfort of his backyard. Donald will be missed by his loving wife Betty, his sons; Mark (Brenda) Merten, David (Bonnie) Merten, half-brother Jim Koenig , as well as nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Donald is preceded in death by his parents, William and Georgianna, stepfather August Koenig, son Donald, and daughter Laurie.
A private celebration of life will be held.
