Obituary

Dennis Benz May 5, 1932 – November 6, 2025 Dennis Benz, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and veteran, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, at the age of 93. Born in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Dennis was raised by his grandparents, Charles and Louise Benz, in Gillett. He attended 4-Town School and graduated from Birnamwood High School in 1949. In 1952, Dennis enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving honorably in Korea and Japan until 1956. After his military service, Dennis briefly worked for the Milwaukee Road before beginning a 42-year career with the Caterpillar dealership in Milwaukee, retiring in 1998. That same year, he met Marilynn Geske, the love of his life. They married in 1959 and shared 66 wonderful years together, raising three sons: Joel, Jeffrey, and James. Dennis was a devoted father, actively involved in his sons' lives through Scouts, music, school events, and outdoor adventures like hunting, fishing, and camping.

He took great pride in his yard and was honored with the Beautification Award in 2003. Dennis and Marilynn shared a love of travel, visiting all 50 states and the Caribbean Islands. He was a proud member of the VFW and participated in the Honor Flight in 2015, a meaningful tribute to his service. Faith was central to Dennis's life. As a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, he taught Sunday School, served on the Church Council, and ushered regularly.

Dennis is survived by his wife Marilynn; sons Joel (Mary), Jeff (Michelle), and Jamie (Teri); grandchildren Eric (Jenni), Austin (Isabella), Nathan, Ryanne (Greg) Wolfe, Nick, Sarah (Jeremy) Brey, and Jamilynn; greatgrandchildren Jennesis Benz and Madeline Lee Brey; godchildren Dan Dalum and Kory Benz; and sisters-inlaw Karen Benz and Pat Schoenrock. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Charles and Louise Benz; mother Linda Schoenrock and stepfather Werner Schoenrock; in-laws Albert and Irene Geske; brother Marvin Schoenrock; and brother-in-law Ken Benz.
