Our Heavenly Father called David Lee Oppermann, 67, of West Bend, WI, to his heavenly home on Friday, December 30, 2022.
David was born on November 26, 1955, in Milwaukee, WI, to Donald and Betty (Klever) Oppermann. David was made a child of God through Holy Baptism on January 15, 1956, and later was confirmed in his faith at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in West Bend, WI, on April 19, 1970.
David's faith was child-like, simple, and unwavering. This simple faith was fostered, cultivated, and reinforced as he attended David Star Lutheran School, Jackson, WI, and Good Shepherd Lutheran School, West Bend, WI. During these years, his Christian teachers planted the seed to never doubt that Jesus was his Savior. He dedicated his focus and efforts to ensure that his children attended Christ-centered schools where their faith would be rooted in Jesus' love. He loved to view the God-given gifts of his children and grandchildren at various worship services and concerts as they proclaimed this simple faith. This brought great joy to his life.
David had a love for life. He passionately loved his wife, four children, 23 grandchildren, relatives, friends and anyone that would give him attention. His Work Hard, Play Hard mantra allowed him to live life to the fullest. He was one to lighten up the room with his unique ability to bring a smile to any face by asking strategic questions to fully engage his audience. "Where you from?" was the most frequently asked question he inundated familiar and random people multiple times just to keep his audience reflecting. David excelled at encouraging and supporting his family, friends, and random people within his sphere of influence. Talking to his beloved truck drivers was his occupation, but talking in general was his love. Whether on a cruise while wearing the infamous Hawaiian shirt, on the beach, by the pool, sitting around the table, or celebrating a grandchild's activity/event, you would not encounter silence around him. David showed his affection via a solid, warm hug or a kiss on the cheek or if really loved on the lips. "Bubba, Meat, or Vern" were terms of endearment used to brighten your day. His simple joy was on display while playing games with family and friends (Sorry- Not- Sorry), sun tanning by the pool or on the beach trying not to mimic a lobster, or washing his cars while loudly singing along to any Beach Boys song.
Although, he will be missed by his family and friends, we know with great certainty and full confidence of the joyful reunion with him and the other beloved saints in Heaven.
He was survived by his wife of 47.5 years, Krista (Schultz) of West Bend; children, Christin (Dennis) Leckwee, Watertown, WI, Laura (Aaron) Winkelman, Sussex, WI, Corrin (Andy) Ehlke, Jackson, WI, Matthew (Elise) Oppermann, Fort Atkinson, WI.; grandchildren, Madison (Nathan) Boulden, Clara Leckwee, Ethan Ganshow, Joseph Ehlke, Patricia Leckwee, Gabriel Winkelman, Rebekah Ganshow, Aurora Leckwee, Samuel Ehlke, Charis Winkelman, Faith Leckwee, Elizabeth Ehlke, Jackson Oppermann, Alex Ganshow, Micaiah Winkelman, Evelyn Ehlke, Kathryn Ehlke, Bethel Leckwee, Nolan Oppermann, Mae Ganshow, Nevaeh Ganshow, Noelle Oppermann; great-grandchild: Baby Boulden, brother and sister, in-laws and many nieces and nephews.
