Obituary

David L. Charland, 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at his Kewaskum residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 28, 1944, in Chippewa Falls, WI, to the late Roy & Irene (nee West) Charland.

Dave graduated from Chippewa Falls High School with the Class of 1962.  He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era.  Following his honorable discharge, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a degree in business.

Dave moved to West Bend in 1974 and later settled in Kewaskum.  Following in his parents' footsteps, he and his wife, Jan, purchased a second home in Sun City West, Arizona where they spent their winters.

He so enjoyed his career as an independent manufacturing representative, building strong relationships and working with customers—many of whom became close friends over the years.

Dave's interests included golfing, traveling a most of all—music.  He played in bands as a drummer for 15 years and loved listening and dancing to music throughout his life.

Community was important to him.  He served on the Police and Fire Commission and was a member of the local Masonic and Moose Lodges.

Above all, Dave treasured time with his family, children and grandchildren.  He always had a smile on his face and kindness in his heart.

Dave is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Jan (nee Prugger), sister Cheri Charland, three children, Michelle Patrykus (Dan), Kathleen Charland and David Charland (Elizabeth); and his stepchildren, David Ruhland (Susan) and Daniel Ruhland.  He is further survived his grandchildren Kailee and Hannah Mayer (Mason), Gabrielle Strutz (Harrison), Sophie Bush, Margaret, Eleanor and Abigail Charland and Alexis, Zander and Will Ruhland; nieces, nephews and other cherished relatives and friends.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  Memorials are appreciated to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at pancan.org to support research aimed at preventing and treating this devastating disease.

A special thank you to Horizon Home Care and Hospice, Froedtert Hospital Oncology and the VA Hospital for their exceptional care.
