Carol Ann Steege, age 88, passed peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at The Kathy Hospice. She was born on February 23, 1938, to Edwin and Hildegard (nee Gilbert) Miller. Carol, an only child, grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from Martin Luther King High School, where she met her husband, Charles.
In her early years as a mother, she stayed home to care for her three children. She later worked part time as a sales clerk. For a few years, she stepped away from work to help her daughter and spend time with her grandsons, Parker and Grant. Once they were in school, she returned to work and continued until the week before her passing.
Carol cherished the people she met and the friendships she built over the years, especially during her time at Subway and Piggly Wiggly in Jackson. She also loved the community at Morning Star Lutheran Church, where she attended weekly services.
She enjoyed the outdoors, especially hiking and biking in the Northwoods. At age 81, she built a rustic dream cabin in the woods of Hazelhurst, where she created lasting memories with her family.
Carol is survived by her three children, Scott (Nancy) Steege, Dale (Anne) Steege, Elizabeth (Todd) Russell; grandchildren, Wes, Zach, Cody, Parker, and Grant; great-grandchildren, Carson, Gia, Olivia, and Owen. She is survived by other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her grandson Brad.
A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Morning Star Lutheran Church (N171W20131 Highland Rd., Jackson, WI 53037) with Pastor Charles Raasch presiding. Visitation will be at church on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Family and friends are welcome to gather for a luncheon at the church following the service.
A special thank you to Pastor Charles Raasch for supporting Carol and family during this difficult time. Also, to The Kathy Hospice staff who helped Carol to remain comfortable during her last days.
