Carol Lynn Monte, 68, of Kewaskum, WI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 25th , 2025, surrounded by family after a long struggle with multiple myeloma and leukemia. She was born on January 27th , 1957, to Clarence and Edriss (nee Friedemann) Pickhard. Carol attended Slinger High school and graduated in the Class of 1975. She went on to attend UW-Milwaukee Columbia School and Nursing and Medical Institute of Minnesota where she received her Medical Assistant Certification. She worked as a dedicated Medical Assistant for over 30 years, working in Family Medicine for the majority of her career.
Carol married her husband Danny Monte on June 13, 1981 at her family's church in Slinger, WI, United Church of Christ. Carol and Danny fought for many years to have children, eventually adopting Emily when she was just weeks old. Carol would oftentimes say that God needed her to have Emily. By some miracle, they went on to have three more children, Aaron, Raeanna, and Jaya. Carol was born to be a mom, devoting her entire life to making sure her children were happy. Even as her kids became adults, they never stopped needing their mom. Whether it be advice about a stressful situation, calling to talk about exciting news, or just asking for advice on how to get rid of a sore throat, Carol always picked up the phone. She was the mom every kid deserved.
As much as she loved being a mom, becoming a grandma made her feel complete. There was not a day that went by that she didn't talk about how perfect and loved her grandchildren were; Marley, Maclyn, Hayden, and Rowen. Even through her hardest days, she never let them see her struggle; she was just grandma.
Carol spent most of her time with a book in her hand. She would frequently take her children along with her to the library to browse for hours through the stacks. She was so smart with a mind like a dictionary. Danny often trying to challenge her with a "tricky" word, only for her to spell it correctly without second thought (and a roll of the eyes to Danny). Between reading books, she loved to go to the movies (for the popcorn), finding new baking recipes, reading her bible daily, shopping in the clearance section, and being QVC's number one fan. She was funny, silly, smart, loving, kind, selfless, and so many things to so many people.
Unexpectedly, Carol was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2020. After several different rigorous treatments, she was also diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia in 2024. Through every appointment, treatment, and phone call, Danny was by her side. Between researching, taking thorough notes, and doing everything he could to make her life easier, he still managed to make her laugh and feel comforted. He was a pest, but that is exactly what she needed. The many nicknames he held for her, Care, Kiddie, Kiddo, Kiddie Lynn, will always be remembered with the way she lovingly yelled "Danny!". After 44 years together, they will always be in each other's hearts and she will be so deeply missed.
Survived by her husband of 44 years Danny Monte; her children Emily, Aaron (Jo), Raeanna, and Jaya; and her grand-children Marley, Maclyn, Hayden, and Rowan. Further survived by her siblings Russ (Debbie), Al (Tammy), Lois (Roger), and Clarice (Tom); sister-in-law Jenny; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Edriss, her brother Roy, and her beloved dog Roxy. She was the glue that held her family together. Even through her illness, she stayed strong for her family, and she is now able to rest.
A funeral service for Carol will be held at Phillip Funeral Home (1420 W Paradise Dr, West Bend WI, 53095) on Monday, November 10th, 2025 at 12:00 PM. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:45 am. She will be interred at Washington County Memorial Park.
A special thanks to the Froedtert Cancer Center in West Bend, and all of the staff there for all the care you gave her during her long, lengthy, treatment days.
