Obituary

With broken hearts and great sadness, we announce that CareyAnn Kutz Vogt, age 73 of Germantown, was unexpectedly called home to her Lord in Heaven on January 8, 2026.
CareyAnn was born on June 29, 1952, to Norman and Ruth Kutz (nee Kruger). She was a devoted wife, proud mother, and loving Nana. She was preceded in death by her parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law (Mildred & Jerome Vogt), and brother-in-law, Dale Vogt. She is survived by her husband, Gary, and their two children: Dr. Matthew Vogt (Breanna nee Rutke) and Alyssa Alt (Ryan). Her legacy lives on through her five grandchildren who were her pride and joy: Caleb, Emma, and Camden Vogt, and Katie and Jackson Alt. She is further survived by her sister, Marilee Thoresen (Erik), her nephews, Paul Thoresen (Ashley Teela) and Graham Thoresen, brother-in-law, Thomas Vogt, sister-in-law, Teri Vogt, nieces Cheyenne Vogt and Nicole Crego (nee Vogt), nephew Jerome Vogt, 2 great-nieces, and 1 great-nephew, and many other family and friends.
CareyAnn grew up in Madison, Wisconsin. She always considered Madison her home. She graduated from LaFollette High School in 1970. She went on to earn her degree in Education from UW-Madison in 1974. She continued to add to her education with additional credits because her love for learning never stopped.
CareyAnn began her teaching career in 1975 and taught early elementary for over 40 years in the Hartford Joint 1 Public School District. The majority of those years she spent teaching 2nd Grade at Rossman Elementary. Former students often stopped her out in the community to tell her that she was the "best teacher that they ever had". She had the privilege of teaching children of her former students.
In 2018, she retired from teaching, but continued to volunteer her time as a teacher for the Nature in the Classroom program through the Lac Lawrann Nature Conservancy. She was instrumental in creating a new learning unit for the program and loved to share her knowledge, hands-on experiences, and gentle appreciation and respect for nature and animals with her students.
CareyAnn also loved to travel the world. She took many international and stateside trips with family and friends. She had the unique opportunity to teach in London and two summers in Denmark. This provided her the opportunity to backpack through Europe. Her love for traveling will continue to be shared and carried on by her family.
CareyAnn married Gary Vogt on May 17, 1986. They were blessed to share 39.5 wonderful married years together. They built a life together in Germantown with their two children. She loved to cheer her children and grandchildren on at their activities. She was known to bake the most delicious, sweet treats for them and greatly enjoyed sharing and teaching them her numerous hobbies. She loved gardening, canning, baking, knitting, cross-stitching, sewing, playing the piano, and reading. She was known to watch football games and play cards with family and friends. Whether it be a simple day-to-day task, preparing for a holiday, or a special occasion, she took great pride in her work.
CareyAnn lived her life in service to others and loved to be involved. She had many passions that she used to make a positive impact on her community. In her spare time, she knit beautiful shawls for the Organ Donor Network. She was very involved in her activities at church and cherished the time she spent at her weekly women's Bible study, with the quilting group, and playing handbells.
Family and friends will remember CareyAnn for her gentle demeanor, genuine thoughtfulness and caring towards others. She lived her life with a strong faith and trust in God and led by example. She lived a life that impacted many and will be greatly missed.
