Obituary

Betty J. Bloom (nee Koerner), age 87, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Cedar Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center in West Bend. She was born on October 13, 1929 in Curtiss, WI to Oscar and Dorothy (nee Untiedt). She married Carl Bloom on July 9, 1949 in Colby. She enjoyed reading, golf, camping, bowling and cooking. Betty loved watching baseball and was an avid Cubs fan. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the Washington County Senior Center.
She cherished her family and would work tirelessly to keep the family going, sometimes working three part-time jobs to make sure her children were taken care of. She did this all without complaint and always said that her reward was having five wonderful children. Her family will always remember and be grateful for her amazing potato salad, applesauce and strawberry jam.
Betty spent many years as a nursing aide at the Samaritan Health Care Center where her passion was taking care of those who could not care for themselves. She donated time and money to the West Bend Food Pantry and loved to bake for the West Bend Senior Center bake sales.
She is survived by her children, David, Diane, Janice Johnson, Gerald (Sandy), Debra (Joel Johnson); grandchildren, Jay, Zachary (Courtney), Matt, Melanie (Kevin) Gonring, Jeremy (Tammy) Johnson, Joshua (Jessica) Johnson, Julia (Kevin) Garczynski, Connor, Jack, and Bennett Johnson; seven great-grandchildren; sister Carol (Dennis) Feind; brother Donald (Yvonne) Koerner; brother-in-law Herbert (Sally) Bloom; and sister-in-law Esther Salzgeber. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Carl.
The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 13th, 2017 at 3:00 PM at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel (1420 W Paradise Drive, West Bend) with Pastor David Schoob presiding. The Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 13th from 2:00 PM until the time of service at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Washington County Senior Center, Washington County Food Pantry or the Washington County Volunteer Center.
The family offers a special thank you to neighbors, Jim and Mary Pickart, Sue and Jim Maus and caretaker Sheila Bretzel-Beutin. Also, a special mention to her beloved cat, Alfie.
