Arthur N. Minster "Art", age 93 years young, of West Bend, passed away of natural causes on Sunday, March 29, 2015. He was born on May 12, 1921 in Sheboygan, WI to Arthur and Lillian (nee Wiemann) Minster. Art was raised in Sheboygan and graduated from Sheboygan High School. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942. His duty performed was Airplane Flight Line Mechanic (Plane Captain). After his honorable discharge from the service, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he met Bernadette during her graduate studies. They married on May 29, 1948 at First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest, Il. Art retired from General Motors after 27 years and later retired from an extended career at Northrop Defense Systems in Rolling Meadows, IL. He worked with NASA on the initial Apollo space crafts, as well as Apollo 11 and 13.
Art loved to golf, bowl, play cards, was an accomplished woodworker and could fix anything. He was quite the inventor, even designing various entertaining toys for his grandchildren. Art always had a pen handy and would let his creative energy flow at any moment. He was an avid Brewers and Green Bay Packers fan. Art was a jokester, and when his children were little he would pretend to phone Vince Lombardi prior to game time. Art was very interested in technology and even owned an iPad before some of his children. Ethics, humbleness and always being a gentleman were his natural qualities. Above all, he was attentive and loving to his family. He was a son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Arthur is survived by his children Mary (Lee) Ihlenfeldt of Fitchburg, Janet (Steve) Riehbrandt of Beaver Dam, Andrew (Kathy) Minster of Jackson, Phil (Laura) Minster of Kentwood, MI., and Patricia (Tom) Hutchinson of Gurnee, IL.; grandchildren Mark (Jennifer) and Douglas (Pamela) Ihlenfeldt, Russell and Amanda Riehbrandt, Rebecca (Bill) Boerger, Andrew James, and Michael (Fiancée Erica) Minster, and Carly and Danielle Minster; great-grandchildren Tristan, Will, Sophia, Henrick and Piper; special friends Aileen, Joel and Jane Stenzel and a host of friends. He is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Bernadette; brother Ray; sister Helen (Bob) Ehrlich; and an infant daughter, Judith.
A Funeral Service in honor of Arthur will be held at Phillip Funeral Home Chapel (1420 W. Paradise Drive, West Bend, WI 53095) on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with Cedar Community Chaplain David Stone officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Military honors and a luncheon will immediately follow. Entombment will take place at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Cedar Community, Multiple Sclerosis Society or a charity of the giver's choice are appreciated.
