Arnold "Arnie" John Walter passed away peacefully at home in the presence of his family on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at the age of 83 years. He was born on June 7, 1930 in Hartford to Raymond and Margaret (nee Schmidt) Walter.
Arnold is preceded in death by his wife Judith (nee Fried), parents Raymond and Margaret, brother Norman, and close-cousins Harvey Schmidt and Andy Weninger. Arnold is survived by his children David (Christine) and Julieann Walter; grandchildren Stephanie (Joseph) Heather, Andrew and Alexandra Walter, Andrea and Sgt. Christopher Luke (U.S. Army Reserves), and Brent Walter; great-grandchildren Little Joe, Joey, Matthew, and Zachary Heather. He is further survived by his brother Robert (Beverly) Walter, sister-in-law Dona Walter, cousin Herbie (Dorothy) Schmidt, aunt Jeanette (Walter) Reis, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
Arnold talked often of his childhood on the family farm inside the Allenton/Hartford area. He worked at American Motors Corp. for 10 years. He then went on to work for the Brown Deer Fire Dept. and retired after dedicating 25 years of service to the community.
Arnold enjoyed AMC cars, Nash cars, and antique farming equipment, especially John Deere and Allis Chalmers tractors. Arnold remained very active his entire life. He loved biking, jogging, and cross country skiing. Arnold was an accomplished ballroom dancer. He was also an avid hunter throughout his life.
Gathering will be from 5:00 PM until 6:15 PM on Friday, January 31, 2014 at Resurrection Catholic Church, 215 Main St. in Allenton. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Arnold will be at 6:30 PM on Friday, January 31, 2014 at the church. Inurnment will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Allenton at a later date.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to dear family friends Mel and Sheri Hilger for their longtime friendship. Arnold served as the best man at their wedding.
They would also like to thank fellow firefighters Tom Batzler and Fred Dorpat for their loyal friendship throughout the years.
