Alice Walter, 99 of Iola, WI formerly of West Bend, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2026. Alice was born in Mauston, Wisconsin on November 9, 1926, to Josephine and Frank Stehlik.

Alice spent her childhood on her family’s farm with her parents and grandparents where she loved swimming in the Lemonweir River, playing piano, eating homemade ice cream every hot summer day and spending time at the Little Mountain Resort and Woodside Ranch next door to their farm.
Alice married Bud Walter in Kenosha, WI in 1944. They moved to West Bend in 1949 to raise their family. Alice and Bud started Bud Walter Furniture and Floor Covering (now known as Walter’s Flooring) shortly after moving to West Bend.

Alice was lovingly devoted to her family. She enjoyed spending time with all of her children and their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved attending their plays, recitals and cheering from the sidelines at athletic events. Even at ninety-nine, Alice was still up for an adventure! She never missed a celebration – from birthday parties to holiday gatherings or family dinners. She was always in for a game of Pinochle, board games and even Jenga! Alice adored evening rides with Stuart to view the full moon and going for ice cream with Tracy. Our family gatherings will never be the same. Alice was a voracious reader, enjoyed classical music, playing cards and participating in many of the activities at her assisted living home. We will all miss her kindness, beautiful smile, sense of humor and infectious laugh.

Alice is survived by her son Stuart (Jan), daughter Tracy (Colleen Maher), daughter-in-law Linda; grandsons, Ben (Heather), Zachary (Anne Nommennson), and Andrew (Sarah McHugh); great grandchildren, Joni, Wyatt, Neve, Ruby, Millie, Hazel and Darby; her beloved niece Michelle Leighton (Mitch) and nephews, Alan(Judy), Wesley(Vicki) and John Stehlik.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents Josephine and Frank Stehlik, husband Bud, son Steven, her mother and father-in-law, Leonard and Inez Walter, her brother George (Elaine); sisters-in-law Geraldine Blystone(Riley) and Lorraine Surerrier(Luke), her brother-in-law Ben (Thelma) and nephew Mike Pepper.

Our family would like to thank Rescha Dodd, APNP for the wonderful care she gave Alice in the last several years, the staff at Living Oaks Assisted Living and St. Croix Hospice.

A private service will take place within the coming weeks.
