Obituary

The life of Alfons L. Woldt is a story of God's grace. He was born on February 11, 1929 in the Town of Jackson (Kirchhayn), WI. His Christian parents, Hugo and Bertha Woldt, brought him to the baptismal font at David's Star Ev. Lutheran Church, Jackson, WI, where he was born again of water and the Spirit on February 24, 1929. Alfons was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 18, 1943. His confirmation verse was Psalm 103:1,2. "Praise the LORD, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits."

On December 26, 1953, Alfons was united in marriage to Ruth Kleinke. Their marriage was blessed with four children.

In his wisdom and mercy, our gracious God decided that February 8, 2014 was time to bring Alfons Woldt to the eternal home Jesus had won for him, at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 28 days.

Alfons is survived by Ruth, his wife of 60 years; his children Michael (Elizabeth), Lori (Allen) Greschner, Jon (Donna), and Amy (James) Bruss; his grandchildren, Alicia (Derek) Campbell, Jon (Yuki) Greschner, Joseph (Julia) Woldt, Jacob (Kami) Woldt, Mark (Erin) Greschner, Amanda (Benjamin) Ziesemer, Joshua Woldt, Karen Woldt, Megan Woldt, Stephanie Bruss, Matthew Bruss, Emily Woldt and Anna Woldt; and great grandchildren Arya, Kellen, Alaina, Luke, Elizabeth, Emmeline, and one great-grandchild yet to be born. Alfons is further survived by his sister-in-law Lois (Harold) Krantz and special nieces, nephews relatives and friends.

Alfons was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Franklin (Vera), Margaret (Rutheford) Butt, and Ruth (Milton) Lemke. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, David Woldt.

Al grew up on a farm less than a quarter mile from David's Star Church and School, where he received his early Christian education and encouragement to study for the teaching ministry. He attended Dr. Martin Luther High School and College in New Ulm, MN. Upon graduation from college in 1950, he received a call to teach 7th and 8th grade and serve as principal of Atonement Lutheran School in Milwaukee, WI. In 1963 he accepted a call to serve as a professor at Wisconsin Lutheran College, a two-year training school for WELS teachers. When the school closed in 1970, Alfons was asked to serve as the administrator for the Martin Luther Home in South Lyon, MI. In 1973, he accepted a call to serve as the administrator for WELS Special Ministries. He served faithfully in that call until the time of his retirement. His health and enthusiasm for gospel ministry allowed him to be active in the public ministry for more than 50 years.

Al enjoyed the support and loving companionship of his wife, Ruth. She often "kept the home fires burning" while he was fulfilling the duties of his various calls. In his free time and retirement, Al enjoyed spending time with his growing family, hunting, fishing, playing cards, the Montello cabin, watching sports, bargain hunting, fish frys, and initiating conversations with friends and strangers alike. You never had to guess how Al felt about an issue! He'd let you know.

In his last years he found special joy participating in the gospel ministry being carried out by Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.

Al knew that his faith, his family, his health, his service in ministry, his good times and bad were all gracious gifts from the heavenly Father who loved him dearly. That's why he said so often, "God is good!"

Visitation will be from 11:30 AM until 1:45 PM on Friday, February 14, 2014 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 6869 Wildwood Rd., West Bend with Pastor Darren Knoll presiding. Memorial Service will take place at 2:00 PM at the church on Friday.
