Warren A. “Sarge” Heckner, age 86 years of West Bend, died Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at Cedar Community Hospice.

Warren was born on December 4, 1921 to Joseph (Bessie Fiege) Heckner in Milwaukee.  Attended North Division High School class of 1939.  He worked for a short time after high school and was a musician with a big band.  Warren then entered the U.S. Marine Corp. Reserves during WWII serving the Pacific Theater in the 1st Marine Division, then continuing his military career in the U.S. Marine Reserves until his transfer to the U.S. Army 84th Division Band.  During that time he married Audrey (nee Bogs) on June 29, 1946 and began their family.  Warren began his professional career as an inspector for the Allen Bradley Company, retiring in 1986.  The couple then moved to Cedar Community.  He enjoyed jazz, big band, military music and spending time with his family.  Member of St. John’s UCC of Slinger.

Sarge is survived by his children Katie Simpson of Waukesha, Peggy Heckner of West Allis.  Further survived by 2 grandchildren Rob (Valerie) Simpson of CO, Rebecca (Eric) Jenecourt of Canada, brother George (Rosemary) Holtz of England, brother-in-law George Bogs of AL, nieces nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, wife Audrey, infant great-grandson Julian and sisters-in-law.

A Memorial Service for Sarge will be on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 4:00pm at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend with Father Scott R. Leannah officiating.  Cremation, Paradise Cremation Services.  Visitation to follow service at the funeral home on Saturday, November 8.  Memorials are appreciated to the 1st Brigade Band (c/o Heritage Hall  504 S. 4th St.  Watertown, WI 53094).
