Harold W. Sechtig of West Bend, passed away Sunday October 5, 2008 at Cedar Lake Health Center at the age of 81 years. He was born on January 8, 1927 to Henry and Frieda (nee Strehlow) Sechtig in the Town of Wauwatosa, WI. Harold was raised in the Milwaukee area and attended Boys Tech High School. After high school, Harold entered the US Navy serving in WWII and Korea. After returning from the service, he attended UW Platteville and earned a Degree in Education, married Marlea A. Dietrich on August 8, 1953, and then attended UW Stout earning a Masters Degree in Education. The couple then moved to the Milwaukee area to raise their family and begin his career as a public school teacher, retiring in 1984. Harold’s passions were model trains, traveling in his motor home, playing games, enjoying time with his grandchildren, playing chess and camping.
Harold is survived by his wife Marlea A. (nee Dietrich), his children Laurie (James) Knop of Germantown, Chris (Peggy) of Portage and Kurt (Anne) of Whitefish Bay. He is further survived by 7 grandchildren, Jason and Ryan Knop; Kyle and Sara Craig; Angel, Alex and Cassie Sechtig; brothers in law Tom (Dorothy) Dietrich, Roger Witte, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service for Harold will be held Saturday 1:00 pm October 18, 2008 at Stony Hills Presbyterian Church N112 W17655 Mequon Rd. Germantown with Rev. Bruce Greenough officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday at the church following the service. Cremation took place at Paradise Cremations with interment of remains at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in New Berlin.
